Measuring yourself for a bra

A bra has 2 measurements;

the underbust (band size)

the cup size

To take your measurements, wear a non padded bra, preferably non-wired. If your breasts don't need much support you can measure yourself bra-less.

1. To find your underbust size measure around your body under your bust. In a mirror check that the tape measure is level all the way around and pulled snugly.

2. For your cup size, loosely measure around the fullest part of your bust. Again, check the tape measure is level all the way around your front and back.

Use the table below to check your size.

Tender Lingerie Care

To keep our lingerie looking good we should hand wash it, however, most of us don't have time to do that and instead we throw it in the washing machine with the rest of our clothes.

Bras are delicate garments and their construction and fit can be severely compromised after a rough ride in the washing machine. If you don't have time to hand wash your lingerie all the time, then here is some friendly advice:

Before machine washing:
- do up the hook and eyes on your bra
- wash your lingerie on its own or with other delicate garments on a gentle cycle

Tip 1 - Place inside a lingerie wash bag
Why? A wash bag prevents garments from snagging or tangling in the washing machine. It can also help protect parts of the bra such as the wires, which if caught in the machine or on heavy garments can wriggle out of the bra, or break.

Tip 2 - Wash in warm water and never put in the tumble dryer. Line dry indoors or outside in the shade.
Why? Heat degrades the elastic in your lingerie ruining its support and appearance.

Tip 3 - Take extra care washing and storing padded bras.
Why? Some contour bras or padded bras have a firm foam cup that once squashed can deform the shape of the cup and leave permanent wrinkles. These wrinkles can show through and ruin the line of your clothes. Try to hand wash these styles and gently press excess water out of the cup when drying, do not wring.
